David Napp
David's main subject matter has always been landscapes because he enjoys working outside and has a strong affinity with nature.
For this reason it was only natural to settle in southern Italy where the strong Mediterranean sun transforms the landscape.

"I am a colourist and I seek to enhance
the colour quality of the subject matter and use colour to express my reaction to the landscape emotively.
Chalk pastels are my main medium because of their tremendous vibrancy of colour and they inspire me to paint with a much richer palette.

As a painter David Napp is well known for invoking the hot, sensual atmosphere of southern Europe. Now he has brought his keen eye and warm colour palette to the very different lighting conditions here in the streets of Bath and we are delighted to offer a show that combines pictures from home and away. This is inspired ‘plein air’ painting of the highest order by an artist at the peak of his powers.
